Ending the Season
Our season ended yesterday with the State tournament being canceled due to the Coronavirus. Several of these kids were ranked in the state and would have brought home some serious hardware. And the team was positioned to win an AA State title. We were all a little heartbroken. All that dieting and hard work with no closure for the season. But we had two choices:
1.) Cry about it
2.) Start grinding for next season
These kids showed up and grinded out a fun practice and then did some self evaluating at the end and got to pick the brain of a wonderful high school wrestler who showed up to help out with practice. I coached the graduating senior as he was coming up through the youth program and it was great seeing him give back to the sport.
Being a champion is more than just about winning. It's about the grind. Whether things go your way or not the work is always there waiting for you.
